Anjolie Ela Menon


Born at Burnpur in West Bengal , Anjolie Ela Menon spent a short time at Sir J.J school of Art , Mumbai , before going on to Delhi University , where she obtained a degree in English Literature . After holding exhibitions in Mumbai in the late 1950's , she won a French Goverment Scholarship to the Echole Nationale Superieure des Beaux Arts in Paris . She travelled extensively in Europe and West Asia , studying Romanesque and Byzantine art before returning to India .Since then she has lived and worked in England , U.S. , Germany and Russia . Anjolie Ela Menon has held over thirty solo exhibitions , including a retrospective in 1988 and participated in several international group shows , including the Biennales of sao Paolo , Brazil and Algiers . She has also served on the Advisory Committee of the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi .
