Bikas Bhattacharjee


Born and raised in Calcutta , he studied at the Goverment College of Art & Craft , where he later taught from 1968 to 1973 . His first one - man show was held in Calcutta in 1965 since when he has others in New Delhi , Banglore and Mumbai and he has participated in many group exhibitions both in India and abroad , including the IV Triennial in Paris ( 1969 ) ,Contemporary Indian Art , Royal Academy , London ( 1982 ) , Grey Art Gallery , New York ( 1985 ) and at the international Tiennials in New Delhi ( 1968 , 1971 , 1975 and 1982 ) . His work is to be found in the permanent collections of the National Gallery of Modern Art , New Delhi , Chandigarh Museum and Bharat Bhavan , Bhopal . Bhattacharjee was awarded the National Award in 1971 and 1972 and he recieved the Padam Shri in 1988 .
