Jogen Chowdhury


The artist and poet , Jogen Chowdhury was born at Faridpur in Bengal and studied at the Goverment College of Art & Craft , Calcutta . He won a French Goverment Scholarship to the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Beaux Art , Paris . In 1966 he was the recipient of the Prix de France de la Jeune Peinture as well as the Havana Biennale Award . Chowdhury returned to India in 1970 and in 1972 was appointed Curator of Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi . He has exhibited widely both in India and abroad , including II , III , IV Triennales , New Delhi (1972 , 1975 , 1978 ) , Sao Paolo Biennale , Brazil ( 1979 ) , Fukuoka Museum , Japan ( 1980 ) , Royal Academy , London ( 1982 ) , Hirschorn Museum , Washington D.C. ( 1982 ) , Festival of India , France ( 1985 ) , II Havana Biennale , Cuba ( 1986 ) , Olympiad of Art , Soeul ( 1988 ) , and Festival of India , Geneva ( 1989 ) . His work is in many major collections , including those of the National Gallery of Modern Art , New Delhi , the Victoria & Albert Museum , London and the glenbarra Museum , Japan .
